About Emergency Management

The Emergency Management Department focuses on the needs of the Oneida Tribe of Indians of Wisconsin and the Oneida Community in preparation for, mitigation from, response to and recovery from Emergencies or Disaster that can affect the reservation.  The Emergency Management (EM) Department works to create a more resilient community through the development of plans, training of employees and community members, the use of community outreach, and through the development of and participation in exercises that test the capability of the departments and entities of the tribal organization.  The EM Department coordinates with tribal and non-tribal response agencies and entities to develop a system of response for simulated and actual events that have the potential to threaten life, property, environment and / or the assets of the Oneida Tribe of Indians of Wisconsin and its community members.

The Oneida Tribe of Indians Emergency Planning Committee (ONEPC)

The ONEPC assists with maintaining the Oneida Tribe of Indians of Wisconsin Emergency Response Plan (ERP).  The ONEPC assists with the implementation of Emergency Actions Plans and when needed can serves as a part of the incident command staff for response to a Declared Emergency within the boundaries of the Oneida Reservation.

“To prepare the Oneida Nation in advance for any immediate or potential situation that threatens community life, property, environment and/or assets of the Oneida Nation.”

The Emergency Management (EM) Department is responsible for obtaining the necessary coordinated support to meet the needs of the Police, Fire, or Rescue Operations for an Emergency or Disaster that has the potential to or has affected the people and/or assets of the Oneida Reservation. The Emergency Management Department specializes in Hazard Mitigation, Warning and Communications, Disaster Response & Recovery, Emergency Preparedness, Preparedness Grants, as well as developing and conducting exercises and training for the Oneida Tribe. EM assists with the development and implementation of the necessary government to government agreements between Federal, Tribal, and State agencies that integrate multi-jurisdictional emergency response plans and actions which encompass the needs of the entire community.  This collaboration and coordination with multiple jurisdictions and disciplines assists the Emergency Management Department with its goal of creating a more resilient community, prepared to respond to and recover from emergencies or disasters that may occur.
