Join us for the Free KUNHI-YO’ “I’m Healthy” Conference on Thursday, August 31

Oneida Nation community members are invited to the free KUNHI-YO’ “I’m Healthy” conference on Thursday, August 31, 2023, which is International Overdose Awareness Day. The event, sponsored by Oneida Behavioral Health’s Tribal Opioid Response Team, will be held at the Radisson Hotel and Conference Center. It begins at 9:00 a.m. and will run throughout the day, concluding with dinner and a closing ceremony.

The goal of the event is to raise awareness about drug overdoses, reduce the stigma of drug-related deaths and acknowledge the grief felt by families and friends.

The conference will feature speakers on hope, healing, harm reduction and healing from historical trauma; overdose education; culturally centered activities; community resources and supports. Lunch and dinner will be provided for registered, in-person attendees.

“We need to encourage discussions about lost family and friends who have died from overdose,” said Mari Kriescher, Director of Oneida Behavioral Health. “These discussions are critical to both healing and prevention. We have to make an effort to normalize open discussions about substance use issues in our community, how deeply these issues impact our lives and how we can make a difference.”

More than 150 people attended last year’s KUNHI-YO’ “I’m Healthy” event where they learned about healing and hope for the future. The keynote speaker, Don Coyhis, brought with him the Sacred Hoop, which he says has four gifts: the power to forgive the unforgivable, the power to heal, the power of unity and the power of hope.

Admission to the event is free, but registration is required for meal planning purposes. To learn more about KUNHI-YO’ “I’m Healthy” and to register, please visit the following link. https://app.inevent.com/en/OneidaNationDigitalEvents/Kunhi-YoImHealthyOverdoseAwarenessEvent2023-10350-/
