New Story Trail Brings Oneida Storytelling to Life

Come one, come all!  Everybody is invited to explore the new story trail located along the Foxtails Trail and discover How the Bear Lost His Tail. This outdoor experience brings an Oneida story to life while encouraging physical activity, literacy, family connection, and cultural learning.

The story was inspired by the work of Amos Christjohn, Maria Hinton, and Michelle Danforth and has been beautifully illustrated and graphically designed by Royce Summers. As visitors walk along the trail, they can enjoy the story while experiencing the beauty and refreshing atmosphere of the outdoors.

The story trail is the result of strong community partnerships and would not have been possible without the continued support of Oneida Tourism, Health Promotion Disease Prevention, Community Health Services, GIS, Conservation, Cultural Heritage, LEAF Division, and Oneida Reads Program.

This project is part of the Community Health Improvement Plan and was made possible through funding provided by the Preventative Health Services Block Grant. By combining literacy, culture, wellness, and recreation, the trail offers a unique opportunity for people of all ages to learn and grow together.

Gather your friends and family, enjoy a fall hike, and spend quality time together while discovering the Oneida story, How the Bear Lost His Tail.
