Oneida Trust Scholarship named in White’s honor

Bobbie Webster

Chairwoman, Oneida Trust and Enrollment Committee

Susan White is the Director of the Trust and Enrollment Department, a role she has served for nearly 20 years. Her responsibilities include daily management and supervision of an Oneida department that has some of the most critical operations in regard to Oneida Tribal Trust funds and official membership rolls. Susan is responsible to maintain the integrity and confidentiality of some of Oneida’s greatest assets.

For more than two decades Susan White has been a strong influence and leader for the Oneida Trust Enrollment Committee and department to safeguard and manage the assets. She’s been a staunch advocate for Socially Responsible Investing and she has promoted this philosophy throughout the country.  Below is an excerpt taken from the First Nations Development Institute:

Susan’s work in shareholder advocacy has granted her and the Oneida Trust Enrollment Committee the Harvard Honoring Nations American Indian Economic Development Award in 2010 for advocacy through investment holdings, the SRI Service Award in 2011, and recognition as a speaker at Native American Finance and National Aboriginal Trust Officers Association conferences and the SRI Conference.

Susan started her career in the financial industry in 1987, and began working for the Oneida Nation in 1994. With the advent of Indian gaming, Susan built the Trust Enrollment Department to be a pivotal function in the Oneida Nation’s infrastructure by developing the trust funds as an endowment vehicle to fund scholarship programs, other departments, and a nationwide life insurance policy for all Oneida citizens.

Aside from her career, Susan is also active serving as co-chair for the Investors and Indigenous Peoples Working Group, the First Nations Development Institute Board of Directors, the Women’s Fund of Greater Green Bay Emeritus, the Oneida Auxiliary VFW Post 7784, a Trustee for the Episcopal Diocese of Fond Du Lac, and the American Foundation for Counseling Services Ethics in Business Selection Committee. She resides in Oneida, Wisconsin, with her husband and two sons.

On April 24th the Oneida Trust and Enrollment Committee took action to name the Oneida Trust Scholarship in her honor.  The vote was unanimous and was forwarded to the Oneida Business Committee and adopted as a proclamation on April 25th at their regular meeting.  On behalf of the Oneida Trust Committee it was expressed to Susan, “All that you have become, and all that you have accomplished, should not be taken for granted, should not be taken lightly and most importantly should not be forgotten.”

This will be your legacy Susan White, perpetual education for our people. As director of enrollments for nearly 20 years, you have been an inspiration for so many things, sustain Oneida, burial rights and processes, doing away with Indian Mascots, responsible investments, looking to the future for our Oneida children financially and educationally, managing and growing the Oneida Trust and Enrollments.

The Oneida Trust and Enrollment Committee hope that the Susan White Scholarship will give inspiration, hope and financial support to our future learners and to keep them mindful of the woman who worked so hard for so long to preserve their rights, their resources and to look to the future.

For all you have done, for all your dreams which you shared and made reality, we thank you Susan White.

With great appreciation and respect,

Bobbi Webster, Chairwoman,

Oneida Trust and Enrollment Committee
